Dr. Gavin Chaundy Barr, Sr., MD, 88, formerly of Saucon Valley and most recently of Bedford, New York, died on April 27, 2022. Born at Allentown Hospital, Allentown, he was a son of the late William Bryce Barr, M.D. and the late Lucy A. (Chaundy) Barr, R.N. He was the husband of the late Susan (McAdoo) Barr for 55 years.

He was a William Allen HS graduate. He earned triple Bachelor of Science degrees at Lafayette College, Easton, and a doctor of medicine degree with honors from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia.

He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force.

He was the chief resident at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. He was medical director of Muhlenberg Hospital Center. He practiced internal medicine with Muhlenberg Primary Care at Lehigh Valley Health Network for more than 50 years. He had a key role in transitioning the Muhlenberg campus and its medical staff to LVHN. He is considered to be the founder of today’s Lehigh Valley Physician’s Group - Internal Medicine, Muhlenberg. He was on the Medical Center Board of Trustees at the Muhlenberg Medical Center.

He was a long-standing member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem.

He was a member of the Saucon Valley Country Club. He and his late wife were avid supporters of the arts, especially SOTA and various historical preservation societies including the Sun Inn Preservation Association.

He is survived by two sisters, Lucy (Fowler) and Carol (Brown) and their families; four children, Susan Barr Lee (Stewart), Jessie B. Paul (Andrew), Dr. Gavin C. Jr. (Maria) and Bryce C.; and fifteen grandchildren, Jack, Meaghan (Thomas), Andrew, William (Megan and great-grandson Hudson), Kathleen, Joseph, Susan, Gavin, Nolan, Grace, Augustine, Bryce (Emily), Theodore, William and Elizabeth.

He was predeceased by a brother, William B. Barr M.D.
