Celebrate Earth Day by recycling clothes April 30

Lower Macungie Library has expanded their hours. The library is now open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The library now offers auto renewals on eligible items. The book drop is open 24/7.

The library will be closed May 24 for staff development and May 28 and 30 for the Memorial Day holiday.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will discuss “A Good Neighborhood: A Novel” by Therese Anne Fowler 10:30 to noon May 4. The book for June 1 is “Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation” by Cokie Roberts. The book club meets virtually.

There will be a Chit Chat and Craft: The Songs of Trees Silhouette Art 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 25. Participants will create their own tree song artwork.

Sunny Day Storytimes for children ages 2-6 years are back. Miss Lisa will read stories, sing songs and share rhymes 10-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays (the same story time is presented both days) on the library’s front lawn. The dates for the story times are April 26-27; May 10-11 and May 17-18. If it is raining, story time is canceled.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Plots are available to rent on a first-come, first-serve basis for residents and nonresidents. Contact the Lower Macungie Township Community Center for more information.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 23.

The Ancient Oaks Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30, rain or shine.

The Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, will hold a Spring Craft Show 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30. There will be crafters, a gift basket auction, attic treasures, baked goods, perennial plants, refreshments and lunch.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold an Earth Day Clothes Recycling Event 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at Concordia Lutheran Church on Brookside Road. Acceptable items for the clothing drive include new and gently used clothing, shoes, coats, bedding and towels (no stuffed animals). There will be family friendly Earth Day activities 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and free picnic cookout. For more information, call the church at 610-965-3265.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at the Lower Macungie Municipal Building parking lot.

Lower Macungie Township will hold its annual community day 4-8 p.m. May 3. There will be free, fun activities for all ages including games, inflatables, entertainment and live music. Food will be available for purchase.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens have resumed meetings at the community center. The next meetings are noon May 3 and 17.

The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon May 5 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall in Macungie. The next meeting will be a picnic noon June 2. Tickets for the picnic are available through May 20. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Lower Lehigh Lions will hold its annual spring flea market/garage sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 at Macungie Memorial Park.

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Spring Book Sale is back! The book sale will be held 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 6-7 in the Lower Macungie Library. Friends’ Preview Night is 5-7:30 p.m. May 5. Join the Friends that night and purchase books before the weekend crowds. There will be a bag sale 2:30-4:30 p.m. May 7. There are over 100 boxes of children’s books. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

The Lower Macungie Historical Society will hold the annual Spring Planting at the Bortz Log House in Wescosville 2-4 p.m. May 15. The house will be open for tours and children can help plant summer vegetables in the garden.

Open gym has returned at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Macungie Ambulance Corps will offer American Heart Association CPR training. Heartsaver CPR AED will be 6-8:30 p.m. May 19; BLS for health care providers 6-10 p.m. May 12; family and friends CPR 6-7 p.m. April 28 at the community center.

The community center is open to the public while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff will be available by phone 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 610-966-6924. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and www.lowermac.com.

Yard waste center hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Beginning May 1, the hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings will take place the day after your regular trash day. Yard waste collection will begin the week of April 18 on the day after regular trash collection and continue every other week.
