Moore leaders set roles

Moore Township Board of Supervisors held its reorganization meeting Jan. 3. This reorganization meeting is required by Pennsylvania law for all municipalities throughout the commonwealth.

Daniel Piorkowski retained his role as chairman of the board. Supervisor David Shaffer was re-elected by his peers to the office of vice chairman.

Newly elected Supervisor Michael A. Tirrell Jr. had the oath of office administered before the meeting. Tirrell is no stranger to elected politics or the political scene in Moore Township. He was a leader of the Moore Township Park and Recreation Committee. This committee successfully administers the plans and operates the township recreation center.

Under Tirrell’s leadership with his team, the recreation committee introduced disc golf, pickleball, the management of horseback riding in the park areas and more, as well as strengthening its recreation policies and operations.

The reorganization meeting also appoints the governmental structure for the next two years. Visit mooretownship.org to access the administration section of the website to review the comprehensive appointments to the 2022 Moore Township government.

The township faces challenges in 2022 as it attempts to manage warehouse development and better organize its policies.

The board of supervisors will also attempt to manage housing developments, as there is a strong impulse by many residents to maintain the rural character of the township.

This impulse is evident from the robust efforts in the township to preserve farmland and open space. Moore Township is a leader in Northampton County in preserving farmland and open space.

The next meeting of the supervisors is 6 p.m. Feb. 1 at the municipal building, 2491 Community Drive. It is an in-person meeting only.
