Police department plans Oct. 30 trunk or treat at N. Catty park

At the Oct. 18 meeting of North Catasauqua Borough Council, it was announced North Catasauqua Police Department’s annual trunk or treat is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. Oct. 30 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.

Also at the meeting, Co-director of Emergency Management Roger Scheirer informed council that ladder, pump and hose testing will be done at Station 2 within the next month-and-a-half. He also announced the fire department has been approved for a $15,000 grant from the state, which it will use to purchase three thermal imaging cameras for its trucks and three new Scott air masks with built-in thermal imaging cameras.

Treasurer Annette Englert relayed to council a request from Slovak Center Social Club, which is seeking relief on its sewer bill for October. A plumbing leak left the club with a bill of more than $630, as compared to the monthly average of around $200. Council decided to offer approximately $450 to the club to make up the difference.

Borough Secretary Tasha Jandrisovitz suggested borough officials look into making the rental inspection process more streamlined. For example, the residential rental ordinance approved within the past year states landlords must have their properties reinspected every time a new tenant moves in, but if the tenants in a property do not change, then that property only needs to be inspected once every four years.

This disparity, Jandrisovitz pointed out, means that while some borough properties will be inspected every few months, others could go years without being held to the borough’s standards. Paone suggested the council law committee convene soon to look into changes to those and other rules surrounding rental inspections.

In other news, Mayor William Molchany reported the borough health officer has granted a temporary health and safety license to the new Grove Street Pub and Grille. A full inspection will be conducted before the restaurant’s grand opening, which is planned for November.
