Widener University

Students graduate

Widener University honored its graduates at ceremonies May 11-14 on the campus in Chester. The university provided two in-person, outdoor celebration options for students who chose to participate, including a drive-through ceremony where graduates were able to exit their vehicles and be recognized as they crossed a stage in front of the historic Old Main administration building and a series of traditional socially distanced ceremonies on campus at Memorial Field, with 100 or fewer graduates at each.

Danielsville: John Mikovits earned a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing science from the School of Nursing

Northampton: Tierra Brandon earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the School of Nursing; Madison Cobb earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the School of Engineering, cum laude

Walnutport: Francesca Boschi earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the School of Nursing, magna cum laude

Emerson College

Students earn degrees

Emerson College awarded more than 950 undergraduate degrees and more than 470 graduate degrees for the Class of 2021 May 2 at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass., during its 141st commencement exercises and virtually May 9. The college also honored the Class of 2020 graduates in an additional ceremony at Fenway Park May 2. The following local students graduated in December of 2020.

Coplay: Hannah Mittermeier, Bachelor of Fine Arts in comedic arts

Northampton: Madison Marzano, Bachelor of Fine Arts in media arts production

The college has 3,700 undergraduates and 1,400 graduate students from across the United States and 50 countries. Quinnipiac University

Sherwin named to dean’s list

Morgan Sherwin, of Coplay, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester at Quinnipiac University. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a GPA of at least 3.5 with no grade lower than C. Full-time students must complete at least 14 credits in a semester, with at least 12 credits that have been graded on a letter grade basis to be eligible. Part-time students must complete at least six credits during a semester.

Quinnipiac is a private, coeducational, nonsectarian institution located 90 minutes north of New York City and two hours from Boston. The university enrolls 9,715 students in 110 degree programs through its schools of business, communications, education, engineering, health sciences, law, medicine, nursing and arts and sciences. Quinnipiac is recognized by U.S. News & World Report and Princeton Review’s “The Best 386 Colleges.”

Rochester Institute of Technology

Dean’s list is announced

Rochester Institute of Technology announced its spring 2021 dean’s list. Undergraduate students are eligible for dean’s list if their GPA is greater than or equal to 3.4 for nine credit hours of traditionally graded coursework; they do not have any grades of Incomplete, NE, D or F; and they have registered for and completed at least 12 credit hours.

Bath: Austin Frey, mechanical engineering technology program

Danielsville: Jacob Auger, software engineering program

Northampton: Andrew Cochrane, motion picture science program; Hope Scott, industrial engineering program

Millersville University

Students earn honor society status

McKenzie Wloczewski of Whitehall, and Jadon Barnett, of Walnutport, were recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. They were initiated at Millersville University.

They are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the Top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the Top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann who had a desire to create a different kind of honor society - one that recognized excellence in all academic disciplines. Today, the society has chapters on more than 325 campuses in the United States and the Philippines. Its mission is “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”

University of the Sciences

Dean’s list is announced

The following students have been named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at University of the Sciences. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a C and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the spring of 2021.

University of the Sciences has prepared students to be leaders and practitioners in the health care and science fields for 200 years. Key to its distinctive education is a tradition of hands-on research and experiential learning that is evident in every graduate who has walked its campus. Since its founding in 1821 as Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, the first college of pharmacy in North America, USciences has grown to more than 30 degree-granting programs from bachelor’s through doctoral degrees in the health sciences, bench sciences and health care business and policy fields.

Lehigh Carbon Community College held its 54th commencement ceremony May 12 via YouTube. Commencement recognized the more than 950 students who have earned associate degrees, certificates or diplomas from December 2020, May and August. Students who earned cum laude had a 3.5-3.75 GPA; students who earned magna cum laude had a 3.75-3.95 GPA; and students who earned summa cum laude had a 3.95-4.0 GPA. Rochester Institute of Technology

Students graduated

Rochester Institute of Technology conferred more than 4,000 degrees at all of its campuses in the 2020-21 academic year. Due to New York state COVID-19 occupancy restrictions, commencement was celebrated May 14-15 in smaller ceremonies by college and were livestreamed for graduates’ family and friends.

Evan Putnam, of Bath, received a Bachelor of Science in computer science, and Nicholas Uebele, of Walnutport, received a Bachelor of Science in packaging science.
