Volleyball 3-3

The Whitehall girls volleyball team evened their record at 3-3 on the season with a straight set win over East Stroudsburg North on Saturday on Coach Tracy Court. The Zephyrs demolished the overmatched Timberwolves 25-8, 25-12, 25-12.

The tone of the match was set early in the first set when Whitehall scored 13 consecutive points on Alli Gerancher’s serve, including 8 aces. ES North was really only able to score on those occasions when the Zephyrs hit the ball out of bounds or into in the net. As a team, Whitehall scored 28 of their 75 points on aces.

Bailey Seibert led the team with 6 kills. Alondra Ayala had 5, Nadia Tarsi had 4, Haley Bartosh and Emily Kloiber had 3 each.

Grace Hana had 11 assists. Alexa Crum had 9 assists after being given the third set off in the blowout.

Last Wednesday, the Zephyrs notched their best win of the first third of the season by beating Stroudsburg in straight sets. The Lady Mounties qualified for districts in 2020.

Head coach Victoria Bobyak put that win in perspective.

“We were pleasantly surprised to win in three sets,” she said. “It shows we are capable of being great and getting a high-scoring win against teams like Stroudsburg. It was definitely a confidence-booster because their program is growing.”

Tonight, the Zephyrs host the top team from the North Division of the EPC, Pocono Mountain East. The Cardinals are 7-3 on the season and a win will be critical for the team to maintain its postseason aspirations.

On Saturday, they play in the Konkrete Kids Varsity Invitational at Northampton. While the tournament results will not affect the EPC or district standings, the Zephyrs and K-Kids lock horns twice in the final two weeks of the regular season when district berths will be claimed and lost.

On Tuesday, the team will travel to Bethlehem Catholic to take on the defending PIAA 3A state champions. After going undefeated a year ago, the Golden Hawks have lost 5-set matches this season to Emmaus and Freedom.
