Lower Macungie resident named an Unsung Hero

Linda Hertzog, of Lower Macungie Township, recently was recognized by the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services as a community Unsung Hero for her dedication as a volunteer.

The Unsung Hero designation recognizes volunteer efforts of older Americans.

In a nomination letter, Hertzog is described as follows:

“Her desire to help is based upon her faith and when she hears someone has a need, she and her husband Gary will provide support for friends and neighbors.”

Hertzog is involved in the food pantry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Quakertown, is trained in CPR and “helps in a caregiver role for several elderly people,” according to her nominator.

“She is very involved in volunteer services for a number of people and provides support to them by purchasing food, shopping and also some gardening help for several elderly friends,” the letter writer continues.

The writer ends the letter by stating,“I am proud to nominate her for the Unsung Heroes Award.”

Traditionally, a luncheon and program hosted by the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services honors those recognized as unsung heroes. However, pandemic restrictions suspended the luncheon and agency officials instead traveled to present honorees with citations, yard signs, flowers and balloons, according to a video from the agency linked through the agency’s Web page on the Lehigh County website.
