Morgan’s record on tax increases a concern for S. Whitehall resident

To The Editor:

As a South Whitehall Township taxpayer, I am concerned about several tax increases over the past decade, all of which happened under the leadership of Commissioner Christina “Tori” Morgan, who has served as board president since 2012.

From 1995 to 2014, there were no tax increases in South Whitehall.

However, the board imposed tax increases on residents in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Like a typical politician, Morgan avoided tax increases in her re-election years of 2013, 2017 and now 2021.

In total, South Whitehall Township property taxes have increased 78.1 percent since 2014.

Then, in 2020, during a global pandemic and a contraction of the local economy, Commissioner Morgan supported a proposal by County Controller Mark Pinsley to institute a sales and earned income tax in Lehigh County.

In early 2021, it was revealed South Whitehall Township had not submitted statutory audits to the state since 2011.

This 10-year failure to comply with the state statute coincides with Morgan’s nearly decade-long tenure as board president.

These financial decisions will hurt lower- and fixed-income residents the most.

We simply can’t afford four more years of Tori Morgan’s poor financial leadership.

It’s time for a change in South Whitehall.
