Lower Macungie Township commissioners approve conditional use application for Hillview Drive

After four nights of hearings, Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners made their decision on the outcome of the conditional use hearing for the development at 900 S. Hillview Drive during the hybrid board of commissioners meeting April 15.

Commissioner Ron R. Beitler said the decision was not an easy one. His concern is about the diverting of water.

Ron Beitler is in favor of the township’s standards about the 35 percent impervious surfacing. He voted in favor.

Board President Ronald W. Beitler also voted in favor of the project. His concern was for the fact this could result in a court proceeding and he does not want the township to endure that costliness.

Commissioner Brian Higgins is concerned about the location. He also expressed other concerns.

Commissioner Richard Ward expressed his dislike of the project and said he would vote no to the project.

The project was approved by a vote of 4 to 1.

This is just the first step in a lengthy process. Residents have the right to appeal any decision by the board of commissioners.

The project was discussed in an executive session April 13.

In other meeting business, an agreement was approved between Lower Macungie Township and Alburtis borough over building inspections as another phase of Spring Creek Properties proceeds.

The proposed warehouse is in Lot 9 and 10 and is in both municipalities.

President Beitler reminded the commissioners and members of the public the warehouse proposal was from the original Spring Creek development which was approved prior to new plans for no additional warehouses in the township.

Lower Macungie Township Manager Bruce Beitel stated the pool agreement with EMAC is proceeding.

The township pool should be open at its usual time.

A resident expressed concerns about truck traffic off of Mountain Road. This correspondence was sent to the township manager. The resident is asking for help in eliminating the trucks as they cause property damage and cause traffic problems. There was discussion to improve signage. Truckers have said they do not see the signs.
