Brian Shoemaker announces candidacy

Lifelong local resident Brian L. Shoemaker has announced his candidacy for Lower Macungie Commissioner.

Shoemaker, 41, grew up in Shepherd Hills and currently resides in Ancient Oaks.

In his announcement he said he supports continuing the good work the current board has done over the last seven years including continuing the farmland preservation program, holding land developers accountable and working to keep Lower Macungie’s property taxes among the lowest in the region by retaining the homestead reduction. The homestead reduction enacted in 2014 reduces homeowner township property taxes each year.

“Over the last seven years, Lower Macungie has become one of the most transparent and forward thinking local governments in the region. I want to continue the work that has been started by the current board,” Shoemaker said.

Shoemaker believes underground infrastructure is another issue that needs to remain front and center over the next four years. Lehigh Valley municipalities have federally mandated obligations to address regional sewer systems.

“Local officials have to advocate with state and federal offices to prioritize funding for this expensive work,” Shoemaker said,

Shoemaker is endorsed by current Board President Ron W. Beitler and Commissioner Ron R. Beitler.

“Brian will bring another steady hand to the board. He’s already familiar with the issues and is ready to hit the ground running on day one,” Ron W. Beitler said. Beitler’s seat will be open at the end of his term since he is on the ballot for Lehigh County Commissioner District 2 and is running unopposed.

Shoemaker, a Republican, is an Emmaus High School graduate, a service technician and a member of Lions Club International, a service organization.
