Upper Macungie Township supervisors, staff, elected officials, police officers, project partners, and community members gathered Aug. 4 to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new Upper Macungie Township Police Station, a project designed to support the township’s continued growth and strengthen public safety services for years to come.

Located at the corner of Grange and Cetronia roads, the new facility will provide approximately 30,000 square feet for the Upper Macungie Township Police Department.

The project represents a significant expansion from the department’s current headquarters and reflects the township’s commitment to planning for future population growth and evolving public safety needs.

One of the fastest-growing communities in the region, Upper Macungie Township has experienced substantial residential and commercial development in recent years.

The new police station is intended to ensure the department has the space, resources, and infrastructure needed to continue serving residents, businesses, and visitors well into the future.

During the ceremony, board of supervisors Chairman Jeff Fleischaker said, “This is twice in one week that we’ve had the great honor of building some new infrastructure for the people of Upper Macungie.”

He emphasized the importance of providing police officers with the facilities and resources they need to serve the community effectively.

State Rep. Mike Schlossberg, D-132nd, said the township’s continued growth has resulted in a series of recent ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings.

He called that “a wonderful problem to have” and said Upper Macungie deserves “world-class facilities” to serve its growing population.

Schlossberg also pledged his continued support for the township.

Mike Butz, general manager of Alvin H. Butz, Inc., thanked the township for selecting the company as construction manager and praised township officials for their collaborative approach.

“We’re proud to be the construction partner for you guys,” Butz said.

Police Chief Mike Sitoski called the groundbreaking “the beginning of a new chapter” for the department.

He said the station was intentionally designed around the people who serve there, with dedicated areas for physical and mental wellness.

“Taking care of those who protect our community is not a luxury; it is a responsibility,” Sitoski said. “Physically and mentally fit officers make better decisions. Resilient officers provide better service, and strong teams build stronger communities.”

Sitoski said the new station is an investment in both the department and the community, allowing police to meet the needs of a growing township while maintaining the department’s commitment to “honor, service, integrity, respect, trust, courage and duty.”

“Today, we are not just breaking ground on a police station,” he said. “We are building a foundation for the future of policing and partnerships.”

The project team includes Upper Macungie Township (owner), Godshall Kane O’Rourke Architects, LLC (architect), and Alvin H. Butz, Inc., (construction manager), Snyder Hoffman Associates (mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer), Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., (civil engineer), and Baker, Ingram & Associates (structural engineer).

Construction is expected to be completed by July 2028.

The ceremony concluded with a ceremonial groundbreaking and group photographs.
