Drug take back Oct. 24

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration again is coordinating a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from homes in the 19th National Take Back Day event, which will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24.

The following police departments will participate in the Oct. 24 collection:

• Catasauqua Police Department, 90 Bridge St., Catasauqua.

• Emmaus Police Department, 400 Jubilee St., Emmaus.

• Macungie Police Department, 21 Locust St., Macungie.

• North Catasauqua Police Department, 1066 4th St., North Catasauqua.

• Salisbury Police: Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St. and Salisbury Middle School, 3301 Devonshire Road; Allentown.

Since the first Take Back Day in 2010, 12,943.5 pounds of medications have been collected in the county.

In addition, 24,315 pounds of medications have been deposited in the permanent medication collection boxes that are in most of the police departments and at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest; Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem; and Lehigh Valley Hospital, 17th and Chew Streets, Allentown.
