Whitehall gets a victory over DHS

The wait is over.

Whitehall ended a 12-game losing streak with an impressive 49-7 victory over host Dieruff Oct. 4. It was the Zephyrs’ (1-1) first victory since they defeated Northampton, 36-43, on Oct. 26, 2018.

Second-year head coach Matt Senneca gained his first victory after his club finished with an 0-11 slate last season.

“I was excited for the kids,” said Senneca. “All last season, all the work they put in during the offseason and all of the stuff with the quarantine and if we’re playing or we’re not playing. It’s a lot off their chests and I’m extremely excited for them.”

It was especially relieving for seniors Zach Hartman and Angelo Daddona among others, all of whom have dealt with the program’s struggles over the past few years.

They and their teammates will be ready for Parkland Friday, as the district runner-up from last year hasn’t played a game due to COVID situations.

“The win felt great and now we are looking forward to playing Parkland Friday night,” said Hartman. “The win gave our guys a lot of confidence, and hopefully we can keep building on this and get a win this week.

“I can’t tell you how good it felt to get a team win after two years,” said Daddona, who scored two touchdowns and ran for 44 yards. “As a team with that fresh feeling in our minds, I hope we can build off this win, and keep getting better each week. We hope we can keep getting wins.”

The Zephyrs grinded out 410 yards on the ground and produced 534 yards of total offense. Sophomore Nigel Linton ran for 146 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns and junior Damonte Foreman gained 95 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Junior quarterback Quinn Wentling completed 10 of 14 passes for 124 yards and Wentling has completed 27 of 44 attempts for 297 yards and one touchdown in two games. Senior wide receiver Tommy Buskirk caught five balls for 65 yards, and he has 11 catches for 149 yards through two games.
