Insurance costs are hefty

Insurance premiums for a district the size of Parkland total nearly $2 million for the 2020-21 school term.

The school board has approved annual premiums of $842,982 for Workman’s Compensation; $608,958 for property, casualty, and automobile coverage; $246,075 for student accident insurance; $83,580 for excess liability insurance; $50,000 for school board legal liability; $23,101 for boiler machinery insurance; and $13,045 for cyber liability.

The property casualty insurance covers property and contents valued at $380,355,830 and the auto insurance covers 213 vehicles.

In other cost matters, the board approved a contract with Tustin Mechanical Services of Quakertown for professional preventive maintenance services to district heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems at an annual cost of $136,500.

The board also approved a one-year extension of a contract with Advanced Disposal Services of Eastern PA for pickup and disposal of solid waste at a cost of $80,833 for the 2020-21 school year.

In another item, the board approved purchase of camera equipment for new buses at a cost of $12,401.

Salaries for Superintendent Richard Sniscak, at $192,946; Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rodney Troutman, at $171,960; and Director of Business Administration John Vignone, at $171,004 were approved.

Their salaries, and those of 70 other administrative personnel, reflect a 3-percent increase over the previous school term.
