Isaias inundates area leaving cleanup for local residents

As she surveyed her yard, which looked more like a muddy lake than the green retreat she has been enjoying this summer, Heather Kuntz could barely disguise her disgust.

“I have three inches of water in my garage,” she said. “This is not the first time we’ve had storms like that. It’s just getting worse.”

Neighbor Rob Sayre said he used bags of mulch as sandbag replacements to keep his basement dry after weekend rains seeped into his basement.

Hurricane Isaias made landfall just after 11 p.m. Aug. 2 near Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., ripping along I-95 and bringing incessant rains and damaging winds along the East Coast.

But by 4 p.m., blue skies appeared over New Tripoli as if by magic.

Isaias caused vehicles to be left stranded in Allentown and surrounding areas as water flooded intersections and jumped the banks of small streams, as the rain continued to pound the area.

At least four houses along Route 143 in New Tripoli, near the fire station sustained flood damage to basements and yards.
Creeks in the area flooded yards and lawns leaving homeowners with the cleanup.
