Two Trojans head to ESU football

Parkland High School 2020 graduates Bryce Boyer and Jered Fenstermaker teamed up on the gridiron as Trojans teammates for the last four years. This fall they will team up once again. The duo committed to play football and study at East Stroudsburg University.

They will be reunited at college with a former Parkland assistant coach.

“I chose ESU because I saw a place where I would fit in best,” said Boyer. “Coach [Jimmy] Terwilliger was a former coach of mine so I had that connection and he made me feel like family.”

“I was down to East Stroudsburg and Kutztown,” said Fenstermaker. “It really just came down to which school had the better exercise science program and which team wanted me more. ESU had both, which made my decision easier.”

At Parkland, Boyer and Fenstermaker were a part of a program that won District 11 titles when they were freshmen and sophomores. They were part of an offensive line that gave the Trojans a potent rushing game.

They know how to win on the field and in the classroom.

“My time at Parkland as a student-athlete went exactly how I wanted it to be,” Boyer said. “Parkland football has always been something I’ve held dear to my heart. The team is like a second family to me. And the academics are unmatched as well.”

“My time at Parkland was great,” Fenstermaker said. “There were some hard times too, but overall I enjoyed it. The hardest part was getting all of my work done between classes and practices and games, but you learn to adapt to the work and make time for it all.”

Over the past couple of months in the offseason, the two have each been working hard in preparation for a season that will get going in just over a month.

“These past few months I’ve just been doing the workouts that ESU has provided for me,” said Boyer. “It’s mostly been at home in my basement, but recently I started working out with Ja-Lon [Perkins].”

“I have mostly been studying the plays I was given by my coaches,” said Fenstermaker. “I’ve also been hitting the weights as hard as I can to get stronger and faster in preparation for this upcoming season.”

Coming up through the program as underclassmen, there was not a whole lot of room for playing time with athletes older than them being just as talented. But with each year, Boyer and Fenstermaker worked on their crafts to get better and make an impact before their time was up.

“To me, the most effective way to better my craft has been through my conversations with fellow offensive lineman past and present,” Boyer said. “Also, just working on my technique in practice and workouts.”

“After each game or season I would watch all of the film on myself and find areas that I could improve on my game,” Fenstermaker said. “I would then try to master those weaknesses. Another thing was making sure that my body was always in the best shape it could be for the season.”

East Stroudsburg opens its 2020 season at home against the defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champions Slippery Rock on Saturday, September 19.
