The 290th anniversary of Craig’s Scotch-Irish Settlement, which was the birth of Northampton County, will be celebrated during a festival 1-4 p.m. Sept. 22 at Horner’s Cemetery, 4965 Nor- Bath Blvd.
Highlights of the event include food, raffles, actors, tours, vintage hearse car show, live music, DAR display, kids’ activities and information for a car tour of settlement homes.
Attendees can also hear about the group’s ties to George Washington, Ben Franklin, Teddy Roosevelt and others.
Craig’s Scotch-Irish Settlement was the oldest permanent settlement in the Lehigh Valley, dating back to 1728. Horner’s Cemetery is the final resting place of the earlier founders.
The Horner’s Cemetery restoration project is marking its 10-year anniversary.
Project volunteers will be raising funds to purchase stainless-steel name tags for tombstones that cannot be read, including veterans of this one-acre cemetery. Since the area dates back to 1728, there are at least 35 tombstones that are unreadable.
For more information, call Peggy at 610-837-1757.
