Softball a different team in second half

The Northampton softball team has a message for the rest of the East Penn Conference: if you beat the K-Kids in the first half of the season, you are going to see a different team the second time around.

The first team to experience the K-Kids’ thirst for revenge was Central Catholic. After the Vikettes won their first game 6-5 on April 6, Northampton returned the favor with a 10-0 thrashing in five innings on April 23.

Senior Heather Alich continued her fantastic spring, going 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Her perfect day at the plate pushed her batting average over .500 on the season.

“We were surprised by the loss last time against them, so we came out today expecting a win,” Alich said. “We really wanted to show them who was the better team.”

Sophomore Madison Biechy has emerged as the ace on the K-Kids’ pitching staff. The shutout against Central Catholic was the fourth time Northampton’s opponent failed to generate a run this season.

“She (Biechy) has earned that number one spot and she’s been doing fantastic,” Alich said.

Junior Emily Stuhldreher had an RBI single and an RBI triple in the contest. Senior Elizabeth Moore had two doubles and knocked in two runs. Six different Northampton hitters recorded an RBI.

Now that round one of the revenge tour is complete, the K-Kids will have to wait a little bit for the next few. Northampton will look to avenge its 6-5 loss to Emmaus on May 2, then take down Parkland on May 7, followed by the season finale against Nazareth on May 9.
