NHS girls getting in their summer work

The Northampton girls basketball team has already begun life without Aja Blount, who graduated as one of the top players ever to play for the Kids.

This summer, they are playing in the Central Catholic High School Summer League and also recently competed in the Cedar Beach Bash.

The girls kicked off play on Friday with a bit of a tough draw, playing University City which actually went on to win the tournament.

After falling to the consolation bracket, Northampton beat Wilson and Boyertown before falling to a familiar foe in Nazareth.

“The girls are playing hard and getting use to playing a new style of basketball,” said head coach Jeff Jacksits. “Our losses were to Nazareth and University City, who won the tournament, so we lost to quality opponents.”

The girls went 2-2 at the Beach Bash and are 4-4 in their summer league, according to Jacksits.

But right now it’s not necessarily about wins and losses.

“Our record is not important,” Jacksits said. “Making sure that all of our players get a chance to play is our summer priority.

“The staff is hoping that the new mix of players can learn to work together and build a trust which will make us a better team for next season.”
