The Northampton boys tennis team is off to a 4-2 start so far this season, looking to improve from a 6-10 mark from last season.
The Kids posted wins against Easton (4-3), Freedom (4-3) and Wilson (4-1) with losses coming against Pleasant Valley (5-2) and Stroudsburg (4-3).
The team is looking to get past the graduation of Tom Reinhard, a four-year starter, as well as Kevin Trinkle, who was a two-year starter.
“We are inexperienced and most players are new to the game,” said head coach Kim Davis. “The kids work hard and will learn. Lack of game experience will hurt a lot.”
The team is already working on the game experience and so far the results have been positive.
Davis said senior Dom Jackson, sophomore Andrew Hozza and senior Brandon Peters lead the key returning players at singles. Through the first six matches, Jackson is 3-3 at number-one while Peters is 4-2 at number three. Hozza has won all six of his matches at number-two singles.
Trevor Hanuschak and Lucas Foulk, both seniors, lead the way as returning doubles players. So far they’ve done just that on the court, too, getting off to a 5-1 record with their only loss coming in the Stroudsburg match.
The duo of Jacob Flood and Chris Nemeth, both sophomores, have seen time at number-three doubles while Nick Hudak and Dan Fox are 3-3 at number-four doubles.
Also seeing action so far this season for the Kids is senior Logan Crout and sophomores Parker Hanuschak, Alexus Cabanela, Andrew Cochrane and Samuel Hanley. The rest of the team is made up of sophomores Taylor Mast and Kien Nguyen.
