Girls head down home stretch
Northampton’s girls’ basketball team has five games left in the regular season before they travel the road to league and district playoffs, and Coach Jeff Jacksits wants the K-Kids to finish 5-0, although 4-1 would be satisfactory.
The Kids’ biggest challenges will come from Nazareth and Parkland. The latter game will take place on Northampton’s senior night.
“We’re sitting pretty good. [When we play Nazareth] we’ll need to contain Brugler and Durnin for sure. We let Durnin start too fast,” said Jacksits, regarding Northampton’s 56-46 loss to the Blue Eagles earlier in the season. “We only lost to Parkland by one point, but we started off terrible against them.”
Northampton captains, Aja Blount and Devon Saul, reflected on the K-Kids final few games after their 64-30 victory over Liberty last Friday night.
“They’re going to get harder. Nazareth is away, and Parkland is at home, but they’re definitely winnable games,” said Northampton guard, Devon Saul.
Revenge is also on the minds of the K-Kids.
“We have to communicate a lot, and work together on defense, and not let the games get to our heads,” said Northampton forward, Aja Blount. “Definitely with our offense, we need to get the ball around, find the open girl, and knock down our shots.”
Blount was Northampton’s top scorer with 17 points on Friday night against Liberty.
As of Press deadlines the K-Kids’ record is 13-5 overall, 10-3 in the East Penn Conference. Most recently, they scored victories over Central Catholic 46-29 and Whitehall 49-36, but lost to Bethlehem Catholic 69-48.
