Fenstermacher wins Escape the Rock

Northampton’s KJ Fenstermacher was the lone K-Kid on top of the podium at the Escape the Rock tournament this past weekend at Council Rock South.

Northampton finished third in the team standings with 123.5 points, off the pace of team champion Malvern Prep (164 points) and runner-up North Allegheny (135.5).

The Kids had six wrestlers medal, but Fenstermacher’s 7-6 decision over Athens’ Brian Courtney solidified him the 132-pound championship, leaving as Northampton’s only gold medalist over the weekend.

Julian Chlebove (126) also reached the finals, but suffered his first defeat of the season, falling 3-1 to Hanover Park’s Nicky Raimo.

It was rematch of the Beast of the East final between the two wrestlers, as Chlebove (10th ranked nationally by Intermat) was able to register a late takedown in December to win 3-2.

Raimo, ranked sixth in the country by Intermat, got revenge over the weekend with a last second takedown of his own for the win.

Dan Moran settled for third at 138, while Cade Moisey finished in sixth at 170, as he also picked up his 100th career victory over the weekend. Logan Ninos (113) and Alex Darabaris (HWT) each finished in eighth.

The Kids (9-1) took on Freedom (6-4) last night and host Nazareth (11-0) tonight in what comes to back-to-back weeks where Northampton will host a nationally ranked team.

The Blue Eagles come into town ranked 14th in the country by Intermat.
