Northampton High School’s varsity cheerleading coach Amy Pandolfo and her squad had less than 90 minutes to make numerous changes to their routine prior to the Easton Rover Rumble Competition, but emerged as champions in the large varsity division on Dec. 10 at Easton Area Middle School.
“I think most of us felt really good because of the circumstances,” said Northampton cheerleading captain, Mia Guadagnino.
One of Northampton’s cheerleaders became sick that morning, and with no alternates, the entire routine had to be changed.
“Pretty much in every aspect, we had to change where she would go and switch people,” Guadagnino said. “We were especially nervous because we had to change all that.”
Northampton’s squad consists of 19 cheerleaders.
“I felt like I knew we could,” said Guadagnino. “I thought we did pretty well. The stunt she was in hit, and I was really proud of that stunt. It was great.”
The Konkrete Kids’ routine begins with a cheer, followed by a jump and tumbling sequence, stunts, a dance, and ends with a pyramid. The squad was awarded a trophy for its first place finish.
“We were all super excited and proud of ourselves,” Guadagnino said.
