LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Kids win on Thanksgiving

On a chilly Thanksgiving morning the Northampton Konkrete Kids rolled into Catasauqua’s Alumni Field with hunger in their bellies, and rolled out with a victory as the K-Kids won 42-25.

Northampton jumped out to a 21-0, halftime lead and never looked back in the 94th meeting between the two cross town rivals.

Etching their first score after consecutive fourth down conversions, the K-kids offense looked like a well-oiled machine throughout the day. The Rough Riders had something to bring to the table though after halftime by scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter, but the K-Kids did not falter and continued to have answers of their own to keep things control.

Junior Jeremy Sell was selected as the K-Kids MVP after a three-touchdown performance with runs from 1, 4, and 35 yards out. It was not only a memorable performance because of the occasion but because they were Sell’s first touchdowns in his varsity career.

“It’s the best feeling in the world,” said Sell. “After the first one I just felt great, I didn’t want to stop. I knew that I would switch in but I didn’t expect any touchdowns.”

When asked about how Sell feels about losing the senior members of the team for next year Sell stated, “I love these guys, these guys are my family. I wouldn’t rather play with anybody else.”

Senior Jared Stauffer rushed for 79 yards with a score, adding 97 yards receiving while senior quarterback Colin Schucker had 150 yards passing, 69 yards rushing, and 21 yards receiving in the game. With the victory Northampton now takes a 57-33-4 lead in the all-time series and marks the third-straight victory for the K-Kids.

Neither team finished strong record wise this season, with Northampton notching a 2-10 mark and Catasauqua earning a 2-9 total, but both teams are excited to see what the future holds and are proud of the work they put in throughout the year.

“I think our guys prepared well. We had three good weeks of practice,” said Northampton coach Mark Scisly, “I know it was a long time, but I’m proud of our guys, how focused they were every day. After we beat Upper Merion a couple weeks ago, they were chanting Catty. They wanted to win this game. I’m proud of the way they played today.”
