State Police Troop M Camp Cadet is now accepting applications for the free June 12-17 overnight camp at Camp Fowler, Orefield.
This year, 100 cadets will be selected to have a firsthand opportunity to experience what it takes to become a law enforcement officer.
The camp is designed to bring a better understanding to youth about the law enforcement profession while living in an atmosphere of an actual state police training academy. This camp is funded solely by donations from area police, private citizens, and civic and business groups.
Blocks of instruction and demonstrations will be presented by Pennsylvania State Police firearms instructors, forensic services unit, Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), Pennsylvania State Police and Whitehall Township Police Department K9s, patrol troopers and the aviation unit (helicopter).
Additional instruction and demonstrations will be conducted by University MedEvac, Moore Township and Bethlehem police departments, Bethlehem City Police Department bike unit, Lehigh County Crime Victims Council, Lehigh County and Northampton County coroners, Tri-Clover Fire and Rescue, FBI, U.S. Secret Services, Allentown SWAT and karate instructors.
Cadets also will be involved in competitive sports including softball, basketball, soccer and flag football.
Trophies are given to the champions at the Camp Cadet graduation ceremony 6 p.m. June 17.
Camp Cadet counselors are comprised of law enforcement personnel from State Police Troop M, liquor enforcement officers, local police departments, including Whitehall and Lehigh townships, and various civilian police personnel.
