Upper Mac supervisorsdeal with new resolutions
Resolutions dominated the agenda for Upper Macungie supervisors at their latest meeting.
Township Engineer J. Scott Stenroos explained each request to the board and answered questions on any of the items.
The first resolution concerned a conditional preliminary land development plan.
The project consists of a 124-room, extended stay hotel with 389 self-storage units, along Oakview Drive. Five waivers were also requested.
Supervisors approved the plan.
The second was for a conditional preliminary/ final land development plan for SunOpta at 7108 Daniels Drive.
The developer will be increasing soy milk production and wants to expand his operation. This was also approved.
Resolution 2015-06 was for conditional preliminary/final subdivision, along with a transportation impact study concerning Liberty at Mill Creek Road. This planconcerns the future construction of two warehouses. A road must also be built between Mill Creek and Cetronia Roads.
The board looked favorably on this request and granted approval.
Resolution 2015-07 concerned the Bortz Property. Conditional preliminary land development plan approval was sought.
The property is located on the border of Upper Macungie and South Whitehall townships with the majority of the development in South Whitehall.
With only 5.26 acres in Upper Macungie, most of the 450 apartment units will be in South Whitehall. The portion in Upper Macungie will be mostly commercial oriented.
Supervisors approved the plan.
Authorization for signature of grant applications was the concern of resolution 2015-08.
These applications will be sent to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources requesting funding for various projects in township parks.
Grant requests for Grange Road Park are as follows: $69,500 with a township match of $75,000 for pedestrian improvements; $40,000 grant with an equal township match for tennis courts; $7,500 with equal township match for a memorial; $136,505 with a like township match for bike lanes, parking lot and athletic fields; $90,300 with equal township match for a concession stand and restrooms and $189,300 with a township match of $193,940 for the new park to the rear of the VFW in Breinigsville for baseball fields, parking and drainage. This will be Breinigsville Park II.
Further requests include $68,060 with equal match for additional parking at the Earl Adams Memorial Park and $4,000 with an equal township match for a handicapped accessible fishing deck and bank stabilization at Apple Pond Park.
The last three resolutions were grouped together as one package.
They concerned installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Cetronia and Schantz roads to the south, a modification to the light at Cetronia and Schantz Road North with a modification to the light at Route 100 and Weilers Road. All were approved by the board.
The firm of Maillie, LLP, certified public accountants in West Chester, was appointed to audit the books.
New employee Lynn Pigliacampi has been hired to replace Valerie Brosky as recreation and events coordinator.
Brosky has moved out of the area.
A grant for a study of the Hamilton Boulevard corridor was discussed.
The subject of bicycle paths was mentioned and will be included in the study.
The grant will cover the portions in Upper and Lower Macungie townships.
A five-year lease of land to Verizon for construction of the cell tower was approved.
The tower will have an additional 20 feet added to the height to accommodate communications equipment used by the fire companies.
The township's tar kettle and backhoe were both sold.
The tar kettle went for $10,500 to David Randazzo and the backhoe was sold for $40,000 to South Fayette Township, Allegheny County.
Recreation programs on the schedule are adult basketball 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, March 19 to June 11 at Jaindl Elementary School; hunter/trapper safety course 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. March 15 at Independent Park; pickup volleyball will continue from 8-10 p.m. Tuesdays until March 31 at Fogelsville Elementary School and a boating safety course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 21 at Independent Park.
