Coordinated Health plans new street lights, wants digital sign

Jim Tsokanos, president of Coordinated Health, presented a concept to South Whitehall commissioners for development of a campus atmosphere among the medical buildings along Cedar Crest Boulevard, across from Weis and Target.

At the Dec. 3 meeting, Tsokanos said Coordinated Health wants to erect new signs and banners with a unifying logo.

The signs would provide clearer directions for identifying the services at each building and would help clients find their way on and off Cedar Crest Boulevard and Route 22.

Tsokanos said landscape improvements and new street lights would be added to the campus.

"We have already invested $60 million on the Cedar Pointe campus in South Whitehall," Tsokanos told the board. "We are looking to invest $10 million here in the next five years.

"We want to turn the 1405 building into a women's health center."

The women's health building would offer positron emission mammography, Saturday hours, same day appointments, and a fellowship trained breast oncologist.

The building would be easily located through the use of pink signage.

Tsokanos said Coordinated Health paid $564,353 in property taxes to Parkland School District and $64,811 to South Whitehall this year.

The organization, described by Tsokanos as a specialized hospital network, employs 437 individuals at South Whitehall locations, provided services to 1,112 employers in the township, had 20,000 patient visits and 95,000 surgeries in South Whitehall in 2014.

Tsokanos said other hospitals have prominent signs to enable people to find them readily.

He proposes a high sign visible from Route 22.

"We're asking for a lollipop that lets people know where they are going," Tsokanos said. "We want a digital sign to let people know there is a hospital on this campus.

"We are seeking your support to move on to zoning."

Coordinated Health needs a text amendment to the zoning ordinance for the signage requested.

Board President Christina "Tori" Morgan said commissioners will take the matter under advisement.

Director of Administration Howard Kutzler said staff will work with Coordinated Health representatives on the zoning amendment process.
