School seeking those responsible for bomb threats

People responsible for bomb threats will face criminal charges.

After the Whitehall-Coplay School Board's Oct. 27 committee meetings, The Press asked about the recent bomb threats at Whitehall High School. Superintendent John Corby said those responsible will face criminal charges when they are caught.

The high school received bomb threats Oct. 14, 22 and 23. Another threat was made Oct. 30, after the school board meeting.

"It was an unfortunate situation, that we take more than serious," Corby said. "The bottom line is the people responsible will face criminal charges and expulsion."

Corby said "The safety of our students is of the utmost importance." He also stated that he's concerned about removing emergency personnel from responding to other emergencies.

"It's a strain on resources," he said. "When people are here after 3 p.m. that's money. The police have to stay and that puts expenses on the district and the township."

"I take pride in leading a great school district with wonderful students, staff, teachers and administration. These events don't reflect what the high school represents. There are good kids, administration and teachers in that building."

In other business, Business Manager Michael Malay presented the Act 1 budget timelines for the 2015-16 year.

The preliminary budget needs to be adopted by the school board at its Feb. 9, 2015 meeting. The deadline to adopt the preliminary budget is Feb. 18, 2015.

The district needs to give legal notice to file for exceptions to Act 1 by Feb. 26, 2015.

The board has to submit its Act 1 exceptions to the Pennsylvania Department of Education on March 5, 2015.
