Upper Mac board OKs liquor license at Hometown
Upper Macungie supervisors will allow the transfer of a liquor license to the Hometown Diner at 8732 Hamilton Blvd., Breinigsville.
Prior to the regular September meeting, a public hearing was held allowing Attorney Ted Zeller to outline the plan for his client, Zita Inc. to permit the family-style restaurant to serve alcoholic beverages.
The owners, who also own Diner 248 in Palmer Township, have had no citations from the state Liquor Control Board since it has been in operation.
They plan to expand the diner area to have a total of approximately 5,000 square feet for use by patrons.
Their projected opening date is March or April 2015.
After questioning by the supervisors, the audience was invited to make comments or ask questions.
As no one had any questions, the hearing was adjourned.
The regular meeting was opened and the first order of business was the Hometown Diner request.
Supervisors voted to allow the transfer of the license and adopted a resolution to legalize the transfer.
Woodmont at Upper Macungie was next to address the board.
Attorney James Preston requested three waivers for the plan.
Two were on the design of the plan concerning the detention basin location and the landscape design. The third waiver was a request to have a reduction in the recreation fee of $3,500 per unit.
Their logic was they will be allowing recreation on the property by means of walking trails, picnic area and other uses.
The developer offered $500,000 to the board for recreation fees instead of the $1 million which would be required.
Supervisor Sam Ashmar was first to voice his opinion on the matter.
He would not support a reduction in the fees for the project saying residents of the development would be using township facilities at other park locations.
Supervisor Jim Brunell asked if other township residents could used the facilities.
He was told they were for use only by residents of the development.
The developer argued that there would be gross inequity in comparing a single bedroom apartment to a five bedroom house, each being assessed the same fee. Supervisors did not agree and denied the request.
The board did, however, allow the first two waivers on the plan with Resolution No. 2014-30.
The contract for the new Township Manager Daniel P. Olpere, was approved. His contract will run until the end of 2015.
A bid of $140,980 was received for storm water improvements at Independent Park.
Dean Haas advised supervisors this figure was much higher than anticipated and recommended the bid be rejected. The board agreed and voted against awarding the contract.
A request was made to have a lacrosse tournament at the Grange Road Park.
The recreation board reviewed the request and voted against allowing this event.
Supervisor Kathy Rader urged the board to follow the Recreation Board's lead and deny the request. Supervisors voted against the proposal.
Wagstaff and Company Ventriloquist and Puppeteer Program will be allowed at Independent Park. The fee will be $5 per person and will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27, 2015. They will cancel if there are not enough people interested.
Jim Adams introduced a proposal for a Lego Club.
