Fellowship residents showcase artistic talents
Fellowship Community, 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall, was turned into an outdoor art gallery Aug. 2.
Fellowship held its third annual Art in the Park in an outdoor setting.
The event afforded residents the opportunity to display oil and watercolor paintings, finely crafted wooden items and stained glass creations.
Art in the Park coordinator and Fellowship resident Joan Bauer initially came up with the idea of holding the event three years ago based on art events held in the area.
"I was inspired by Art in the Park in Allentown," she said. "I thought we have so much talent here."
Bauer said she was personally inspired by the depth and breadth of the artistic ability residing at Fellowship.
"I saw a lot of talent living here and thought it would be nice to have," she said.
Bill Jones, resident and artist, offered four of his pieces for display during the event. A retired engineer, Jones said his artistic animal appeared after retirement.
"I picked it up," he said of drawing. "I knew I could draw."
Jones' other artwork can be found on display at the Allentown Art Museum, The Baum School of Art, Banana Factory and Muhlenberg College.
According to Kelly Gould, executive director of development and Marketing for Fellowship Community, the event provides residents the unique opportunity to share with others their creative talents.
"I think what's exciting about Joan's idea is it's showcasing the artistic capabilities of our residents," Gould said. "It should be an inspiration to everyone."
In addition to displaying the creative talents of the residents, the event, Bauer said, offers the residents a chance to mingle.
"They are fellowshipping and they are having a good time," she said.
The event is made possible by the organization Friends of Fellowship, Bauer said
