Camp Cementon column
The final week of camp for the summer was jam packed with fun.
The theme at Camp Cementon was "beach week."
The campers and counselors alike had a great time playing their favorite games all week long. Along with playing games such as Pac-Man, human pinball and cops and robbers, everyone had tons of free time to play with all the balls and toys we have.
Dodge ball is definitely the number one game to play at Camp Cementon. The boys decided to start a game during free time, and it turned into a giant game that lasted over an hour.
The counselors noticed everyone's dodge ball skills improved over the summer because we practiced so much.
As usual, we went to the pool in the afternoon almost every day this week. Despite it being a little chilly out toward the end of the week, nearly everyone took a dip. The kids then played four square and purchased some food from the snack stand.
We almost went all summer without a rainy day, but on Tuesday we had a big rainstorm. Luckily, that made for the perfect movie day.
We traveled across the bridge for our field trip to the Roxy Theatre in Northampton. We joined forces with Camp Jefferson and had the theater all to ourselves to watch "How to Train Your Dragon 2." Giggles were heard throughout the theater, along with a few sniffles due to the sad parts. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the movie.
Our craft this week went along with the beach theme. The kids made a crab out of their two handprints and decorated the background how they wanted. Most of the campers put their crab on the beach, but some got silly and put their crab in other places, like outer space. The counselors did their best to place red paint on the hands of the campers.
On Friday, Camp Jefferson came over to Cementon Park to have a big party with us on the last day of camp. The children played all sorts of games and ate tons of food.
Sebastian O. and Jenayssi were named the Campers of the Week for their outstanding behavior all week long.
It was a hard decision but the coveted award of Camper of the Summer went to Jasmine K. and Naseer W. Both campers came to camp almost every day this summer with a smiling face and positive attitude. Congratulations, guys!
Through all the good times and the few bad times, we couldn't have asked for a better summer at Camp Cementon.
The counselors were sad to see their little friends go, but we know that they are going to do big things this year.
Until next time, have an awesome school year, Camp Cementon!
