Area donors make Whitehall girl's prom perfect
Proms come and go, but fairy tale proms stay with us for a lifetime.
Whitehall High School senior Christina Fragnito experienced such a prom last Saturday.
Christina, who was diagnosed with brain tumors back in 2010, was recently the recipient of random acts of kindness and generosity.. Because of the selfless giving of others, Christina experienced a senior prom she will never forget.
An unforgettable prom where she was voted prom queen.
According to Diane Fragnito, Christina's mother, Gockley and Steckel Elementary schools, Brandy's Salon, Orefield, and Dan Dortic of Major Hyundai, Stroudsburg, helped to make Christina's prom special.
Gockley and Steckel held a fundraiser which provided Christina's prom dress, Brandy's Salon owner Brandy Wanamaker did Christina's hair and make up and Dan Dortic provided a limousine for Christina, her date and friends to travel in.
The appreciation was evident on Christina's face as she interacted with family and friends outside of her prom date, Nick Graff's home, in Egypt.
"I think it was really nice of them," Christina said. "They made this big prom day special."
Diane said she was surprised by those who came together to make Christina's senior prom unforgettable.
"I was just so touched," she said. "The outpouring of love she [Christina] got from Gockley and Steckel and others is so heartwarming."
Nick, who has known Christina since first-grade communion, said she is the perfect date to accompany him to the prom.
"We've always been really good friends," he said. "I figure, if I go, I'll go with her."
Life has not been an easy ride for Christina the past four years. Two surgeries have led to a host of side effects such as the loss of partial use of one of her hands and frequent headaches. Yet, despite the many challenges she faces daily, Christina is grateful for those who have supported her.
"It's been really tough, but knowing that I have great friends and family who have stuck with me made it easier," she said.
"I'd like to thank everyone for everything they did for me."
Diane beamed Saturday as she watched her daughter in her prom dress, smiling and laughing, enjoying the company of friends and family.
"She has a wonderful outlook and wonderful spirit," Diane said.
Christina, who will graduate this month from Whitehall High School, plans to attend Lehigh Carbon Community College in the fall to study nursing.
