Soccer club moves to new location
The Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners approved a resolution at its April 14 meeting that authorized Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. to enter into a license agreement (lease) with the soccer club.
The soccer club will use the 19.3 acres of land located on Range Road, formerly Mulligan's, a golf course. The golf course closed in 2013.
Tri Boro, which has about 800 youngsters in its program, also uses fields at Schadt Avenue Park and Steckel Elementary School.
The license agreement is for one year, renewable thereafter on an annual basis.
Township commissioners were told the vast majority of children in the program are from Whitehall.
Long-term plans may involve adding an area for soccer activity that was donated to the township by Clear Channel, which has radio towers in the same vicinity.
Hozza said a stipulation by Clear Channel is that its corporate name be part of the park's makeup. Hozza said the park would be named Clear Channel Central Park. There is no timetable for that project.
While Tri Boro will not have to pay any money to use the Range Road grounds, the organization is not permitted to conduct major earth movement without approval from the township, Lehigh County Conservation District and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
A liability insurance policy of $1,000,000 against bodily injury must be maintained, a minimum amount of $1,000,000 per person/per occurrence and name the township as an additional insured on the policy.
The township would have use of the property if it conducts programs or events that may include a community heritage day, community concerts, fireworks or Camp Whitehall.
The township will pay the electric bill and waste and recycling removal. Tri Boro is responsible for grass cutting, trimming and locking and unlocking the gate.
