Club members make floral arrangements

Spring was in full bloom March 27 at the Coplay Garden Club workshop.

The workshop was held at St. John's Lutheran Church Social Hall, South Third Street.

19 members in the classroom were led by Linda Kortz, who taught art at Stroudsburg High School for 10 years, National Art Industry board of directors, designed for Better Homes and Gardens, Plaid Enterprises and a designer of the Orient for five years.

Kotz's resume paid dividends over the two hour course. Her extensive expertise and one-on-one instructions helped the members complete their crescent shaped arrangements.

Kortz said the club's attentive and cordiality was demonstrated on how fast members were willing to learn new ideas and experiences.

Beginning with a moist block of material known as an oasis, the small platform for creating the crescent arrangement, the members then utilized ferns and evergreens to begin the project, followed by purple Statice flowers, Peruvian Lillies and small Mums.

"They are kind of there, but they are not there," Kortz explained if accessories are used in creating arrangements.

Also at the meeting, members brought arrangements created in boots, men's work shoes and ice skates as entries for the club's artistic tournament, "forward March," with varied evergreens in the footwear, with an accessory complementing the boot.
