Boys lax routs K-Kids

The Parkland boys lacrosse team finished off a long stretch of games with a convincing 18-1 victory at Northampton high school last Monday afternoon, where nine different Trojans found the back of the net.

It was the kind of game Parkland (8-2 overall) needed coming off a six-day span where it played five games. The stretch started with a 20-4 win at Nazareth last Wednesday. Then the Trojans defeated Freedom on Friday, and followed that up with a win at Exeter Saturday and a heart breaking loss at home to North Allegheny the next day.

"We've had a pretty tough stretch," said head coach Brad Schifko. "This was the tail end of a five game in six day stretch. Yesterday (Sunday) was a bad loss, but it's tough to get the highest level from the guys with so many games in a row. But I'm proud of the guys for how they played."

All of the Trojan players brought forth their best efforts on Monday. Dylan Klusaritz (4 goals, 1 assist) and Gavin Saylor (1 goal, 3 assists) both scored goals within the first minute of the game.

The opportunities were plenty for the Trojans, as Jake Billera (4 goals), Ethan Howell (1 goal), Austin Close (1 goal), Will Meier (2 goals, 1 assist), and Dru Miller (2 goals, 1 assist) each added goals in the first half, and Parkland had this one well in hand by halftime, leading 14-0.

Alex Geisel scored twice in the third quarter, and Rick Panella added one in the fourth for the Trojans. Nolan Ridgway, Josh Pope, Logan Barlok and Zach Getchius each contributed assists in the win. Joey Stevenson saved four shots for Parkland.

"The biggest thing is we're here to support them more than anything," said Schifko on the first year varsity Northampton program. "We tried to conduct ourselves with a bit of class and we respect our opponents. We certainly still have a lot to work on."
