If you like big box stores with mass-produced factory items, Atlas and Ellie Emporium is not for you.

Owner Catherine Zuber opened Atlas and Ellie Emporium in March. Having had experience as a vendor and as an artist, Zuber wanted to have a handcraft consignment shop where vendors could present their goods in a convenient and accessible location.

Northampton was a natural choice for Zuber to open her business. Having grown up in Northampton and attended the Northampton Area School District, Zuber said she met her future husband while they both were in high school.

Graduation came, he joined the U.S. Marines, and she went off to college in New York. They reconnected 10 years later and were married. Now, with a husband and two sons, Zuber wanted to raise her children and commit her business to the community of Northampton.

Zuber makes handcrafted handbags and unique baby items. Other vendors provide unique items such as sensory toys, unpaper towels, seasonal wreaths, stained glass, macramé and more. New vendors are always being considered.

Vendors rent a space for each month. Products are sold with a 85/15 split, and proceeds are deposited into the vendor’s account. Many vendors happily choose to focus on being creative and practicing their craft, while leaving the business and sales to the shop.

This location currently has 40 vendors but has room for up to 65. Upcoming workshops and pop-up vendors are scheduled for the fall.

Events such as a sip and paint night Aug. 27 are planned.

Atlas and Ellie Emporium is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
