Railroaders, museum donate to Wounded Warriors

Jim Barker, president of the LV Garden Railroaders, in collaboration with America On Wheels Museum presented an $1,800 check to Paul Spurgin, director of the Keystone Wounded Warriors, Blandon, on Jan. 23.

The donation was fueled by a partnership created between the America On Wheels Museum and the LV Garden Railroaders several years ago and consists of a percentage of admissions collected during the annual holiday train exhibit displayed at the museum by the LV Garden Railroaders.

Keystone Wounded Warriors is a nonprofit corporation that honors the daily sacrifices made by the brave men and women in all branches of the U.S military; specifically those wounded on or after Sept. 11, 2001.

LV Garden Railroaders enjoy the fun, challenge and experience of large scale model railroading.

Many of them have "G" gauge outdoor "garden railroads" at their homes.

"This contribution helps our organization build handicap ramps, make minor home improvements to accommodate wheelchairs and provides for payment of household expenses such as food, clothing and heating for families finding it difficult to make ends meet back home. Let us never forget our heroes," Spurgin said.

America On Wheels, 5 N. Front St., Allentown, is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and from noon-5 p.m. Sundays.
