Harbison reports on problem property

At a recent South Whitehall commissioners' meeting, Director of Community Development Gerald Harbison reported on the township's response to complaints regarding a property at Whitehall and Latta streerts, across from Kratzer Elementary School.

Harbison displayed photos of the home showing debris and an open swimming pool.

He said a pool house connected to a fence collapsed, leaving an open end to the pool.

An abandoned, un-locked car with an expired license plate and lapsed inspection was found with clothing and coffee cups inside.

"Someone may be living in it," Harbison said.

He said a bank owns the property and the resident was evicted from the house.

Director of Administration Howard Kutzler said the township can address the problems through code enforcement.

In other business, Harbison reported streetlights have been installed at Sieger Gardens in Orefield, west of Route 309.

Last spring residents requested the lights for security purposes.

Harbison also said the Stadium Road streetlight project is nearly complete.

The undertaking was initiated earlier this year in the interests of safety and security for stadium events at Orefield Middle School site.

William Argeros, 4117 Emerson Lane, stepped forth to complain about the noise made from garbage pick-up.

"The trucks are loud," Argeros said. "They should not come when people are sleeping. You can hear them five miles away."

Commissioners suggested talking to the hauler about the matter.
