David Jaindl donates $50,000 to Wounded Warriors

As part of Veterans Day festivities at Parkland High School, Wounded Warrior, retired First Lt. U.S. Marine Corps and Director of Major Gifts for the Wounded Warrior Project Denis Oliverio spoke to history students about his military career and tour of duty during Desert Storm and his deployment to Iraq.

Following his presentation, Oliverio accompanied by Winchester, his black lab companion and service dog accepted a $50,000 gift to the Wounded Warrior Project from businessman David Jaindl, owner of Jaindl LLC.

The donation was from proceeds of the June Tough Mudder at Jaindl-AGs Raven Valley Farm in Heidelberg Township.

Jaindl's motivation to host the event was due to the Tough Mudder's commitment to the Wounded Warrior Project, which raises awareness and enlists the public's to help to aid injured servicemen and women and to provide programs and services to meet their needs.

An estimated 50,000 servicemen and women have been physicially injured in recent military conflicts, another 320,000 have experienced a traumatic brain injury while on deployment, and as many as 400,000 additional service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The contribution was strongly supported by Jaindl's family and staff, many of whom are veterans and who collectively spent more than 600 hours to prepare the land for the Tough Mudder.

Jaindl decided to commit all of his net proceeds received from hosting the event to charity, with the lion's share going to the Wounded Warrior Project.

In fall 2013, Jaindl contacted Wounded Warrior Project headquarters, in Jacksonville, Fla. and reached Lt. Oliverio.

Oliverio is not only employed by Wounded Warriors Project but is a wounded warrior .

"Wounded Warriors such as Denis deserve our sincere appreciation," Jaindl said. "It is important to take the time to honor our servicemen and servicewomen, not only on Veterans Day and Thanksgiving, but every day. There is no more worthwhile cause than the Wounded Warrior Project.

"With this gift, we give them our thanks."

Attending the presentation were Parkland District Superintendent Richard Sniscak; High School Principal James Moniz; state Reps. Ryan MacKenzie, R-134th; Gary Day, R-187th; and Julie Harhart, R-183rd; and Jason Lane, Congressman Charlie Dent's Berks County coordinator.
