Community center becomes music show venue

Three years ago Bob and son Rob Hunt, of Flagship Music Center, Temple, Berks County, began sponsoring music shows.

The search for a venue took them to the Kempton Community Center where Bob is on the board of directors.

Bob said the choice of location was made because Kempton is a beautiful area and close to the highway.

The township, Albany, was behind him when they looked for a place to "do this kind of thing."

He said when they named the venue the Kempton Music Center people did not like the name being changed from the Kempton Community Center. So, he changed the music program's name to the Kempton Music Series at the Kempton Community Center.

On Nov. 17 The Outlaws will be providing the musical entertainment. The Southern rock group is best known for "There Goes Another Love Song" and "Green Grass and High Tides." Special guest will be Citizens Band Radio. Doors open 5 p.m.

Bob said the musical performances will help the community center because it will receive a portion of the proceeds.

He said it costs quite a bit of money to keep something like the Kempton Community Center running. There are taxes to be paid as well as electricity and heat. He said the center's only source of income is through rentals.

Grants have been applied for to update the playground, tennis courts, electricity and other building improvements.

Rob plays music and Bob, who calls himself a music buff, said he enjoys everything from classical to bluegrass to rock.
