Board OKs funds for truck

North Whitehall Township Secretary Brenda Norder announced Trick or Treat Night is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25.

A minor subdivision proposal was shown to the board.

Lot 13 of the Parkland Pointe subdivision will be subdivided into three lots.

These lots were filled in for Department of Environmental purposes and are now ready for subdivision.

The lots were tested and found suitable for on-lot septic systems.

The developer's plans will be reviewed by the township planning commission in November after payment of a $5,000 escrow fee.

Eric Minford of the Laurys Fire Company told supervisors the fire company purchased a new vehicle to replace the existing 1981 truck.

They expect to take delivery around the end of January 2014.

The board authorized the release of $150,000 for payment of the truck.

KME of Nesquehoning was awarded the bid of $391,225.

A resolution was presented for approval of the re-timing of the traffic signal at Weis Markets along Route 873.

The board unanimously agreed to the resolution and authorized Township Manager Jeff Bartlett to sign the application with PennDOT.

Another resolution was brought forward concerning the way the tax collector collects taxes.

Interim bills would only be sent out three times a year and only if the amount is more than $500.

This resolution would coincide with similar resolutions in the other taxing districts in the school district.

Bartlett reported the Route 309 and Sand Spring Road intersection was finished. The traffic signal should be functioning correctly. There is a 30-day trial period followed by a 180-day warranty period.

After this time, the light is turned over to the township.

According to Bartlett, the zoning hearing board denied a request for a propane filling station to be located off Levans Road, near Schnecksville, but approved an appeal for an electronic billboard near Laurys Station.

Bartlett said the township website is moving forward and the update should be completed by late November or early December.

Bartlett said Senior Day was well attended with 311 people participating.

Jim Steward of the Neffs Fire Company addressed the board about bonfires and campfires.

He is concerned there is no setback from buildings or property lines for these fires.

He urged the board to amend the burning ordinance by inserting better guidelines to define recreational fires.

Bartlett said some violations could be prosecuted under the nuisance ordinance.

Ed Ziegler questioned the construction progress of the bridge over the Jordan Creek on Game Preserve Road.

According to Jeff Bartlett, the bridge will be finished in spring 2014.

PennDOT has taken the bridge apart and will reconstruct it using the old lumber after placing a steel under frame.

Ziegler suggested it would have been better to construct a new bridge next to the old structure.
