Can you judge a book by its movie? Should you?
Bill Wine, Commonwealth speaker and Emmy-winning KYW NewsRadio film critic, will help answer that question when he presents "Based on the Book: Bestseller Cinema" 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Northampton Area Public Library, 1615 Laubach Ave.
Wine will discuss the psychological differences between the reading and viewing experience. He will also analyze the way novels have been adapted into films. Books and films to be discussed include "The Grapes of Wrath," "Schindler's List," "Bridget Jones' Diary," "The Graduate," "A Clockwork Orange," "The Silence of the Lambs," "The Maltese Falcon," "The Godfather," "The Da Vinci Code" and more.
Wine has been writing about and teaching film throughout his career, serving as a movie critic for magazines, newspapers, radio, television and online. He served as the movie critic for Fox Television for 12 years, earning eight Emmy Award nominations and winning three Emmy Awards.
Wine has been the movie critic for the CBS station KYW NewsRadio in Philadelphia since 2001. He also has written for The Village Voice, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and many other publications and is also a produced and published playwright.
The library presentation is a program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council supported in part by National Endowment for the Humanities.
