North Catasauqua Column

Area residents can welcome fall during the Oct. 13 Best of North Catasauqua Autumnfest and Car Show, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the borough park.

Proceeds from this community event, sponsored by the North Catasauqua Betterment Committee, will be used for community improvements and borough projects.

The event will include food, games, live music, a musical show for children and a car show. There will also be cooking demonstrations, a fire department display, contests and a craft and flea market.

The rain date will be the following weekend, Saturday, Oct. 19.

Entries are sought for the scarecrow decorating contest, which offers $50 cash for first prize and $20 for second prize.

The contest is open to everyone. Enter as a school classroom, as a family, as a neighborhood, as an individual or as a business.

A halupki eating contest will offer a $100 cash prize. The contest, open to the general public, begins at 3:30 p.m. on the white stage.

Entry forms for either contest are available at North Catasauqua Borough Hall, 1066 Fourth St.

Volunteers are also needed to help out at the event. No experience is necessary. All ages are welcome. Areas for volunteering include kids' craft tent, wagon ride helper, mascot escort, someone to wear a mascot costume and ticket sellers

Vendors are also invited to reserve space for the craft and flea market.

The Suburban North YMCA offers Y dance classes for ages 3 to adults, in a nurturing, positive and fun environment.

Classes offered include ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical and creative movement, and are offered Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

The week of Oct. 8 is Bring a Friend to Y Dance week; if your child is thinking of trying a class, this is the perfect time.

Also at the Y, mark your calendar for the holiday craft fair to be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.

Shop early for the holiday at tables featuring handmade items, baked goods and specialty items. If you would like to rent a table, space is available.

Chapman Lodge at the Porter-Chapman Masonic Temple, 1103 Sixth St., is hosting a roast beef dinner with potatoes, vegetable and dessert for $10 each, eat in or take out, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12.

During the dinner, there will be a basket raffle and a raffle for a carpet.
