Kids look for a win

There's no question that a victory this week for Northampton's football team would lift a huge weight off the shoulders of the program.

Sitting at 0-4 following last week's 41-24 loss to Bethlehem Catholic, the continued struggles haven't evaporated, nor has it deteriorated the team's morale.

Not yet at least.

"I think a win would pick things up as far as morale and confidence," said head coach Jeff Brosky. "It would no doubt take pressure off and lift up our spirits and I think the kids understand that they have an opportunity to do that this week."

With a Saturday night tilt at Central Catholic (1-3) on the agenda, the Kids enter with the hope of being able to register their first win of the season.

The Vikings only victory this season came against Allen in the season opener by a 55-6 margin, but they've battled in losses to Freedom and Emmaus, falling 14-7 and 21-14, respectively in both contests.

Brosky knows that this is a prime opportunity for his team to get their first victory on the season, but is also disappointed that it's taken this long.

"To be honest, I never would have thought we'd be in this position," he said. "I thought we could be at 2-2 like we were a year ago. We've had a tough schedule and we really haven't made a lot of mistakes.

"We just haven't been making big plays. It seems like every school we go up against has three or four more playmakers than us and that's really been the difference this year."

The Kids hope this can be a week of joy, as they've dealt with losses to four teams that are a combined 11-5 this season.

With contests against Emmaus (2-2) and Freedom (1-3) left on the schedule, opportunities for victory appear to be at a minimum for this year's group.

One thing they'll have to iron out if they want to win is their defense. The Kids have given up an average of 44.5 points a game, which is something that Brosky has never seen in all his years coaching.

"This is the most points we've ever given up as a team that I've been apart of," he said. "We just haven't been able to tackle people well all year."

But no matter what the outcome is every week, Brosky is looking for his team to continue fighting.

"I told the kids I will always accept 100-percent effort," he said. "I'm proud of how they've played this year, especially how they never quit against Becahi
