Strawberry Fields hearing continued

North Whitehall Solicitor Lisa Young opened the Aug. 5 continuation hearing on Strawberry Fields Active Adult Residential Community conditional use.

As the planning commission submittal was continued, supervisors needed to continue their hearing for another month.

If the planning commission completes its review 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 in the Schnecksville Fire Company, the board will have its conditional use hearing 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the same location.

If, after planning commission review, any zoning board relief is necessary, supervisors will need to continue the hearing again.

The Sept. 2 supervisors' meeting has been moved to Sept. 9 due to Labor Day.

In other business, the board adopted a resolution to insure compliance with Act 44 concerning administration of the pension plan.

Township Manager Jeff Bartlett reported Sand Spring Road will be open by Sept. 1, in time for the beginning of school.

The road could actually be open two weeks earlier, weather permitting.

PennDOT will microsurface portions of Shankweiler Road and Cedar Crest Boulevard.

The township also has several road projects involving microsurfacing and oil and chipping.

The bridge on Golf Course Road will be finished in one week.

The township will resurface the bridge at that time.

Draft No. 3 of the Jordan Creek Greenway project was received from Lehigh County.

A meeting will be held in mid-August with Lehigh County and all the municipalities bordering on the Jordan Creek in attendance.

Bartlett informed the board he will be starting the budget process and wants supervisors to let him know of any items they want in the budget.

The Erosion and Sedimentation Control plan for the Ironton Rails to Trail has been approved.

The township is now awaiting the DEP permit so it can proceed with this project.

Young said the easement necessary for the project would be available for the next meeting.

Supervisors authorized her to execute the agreement.

Don Nemeth brought a matter to the board concerning erosion along Clearview Road.

Tree roots have been eroded and he is fearful that they could topple onto the overhead lines.

The township will check the area to see if anything can be done.

Resident Jim Morris addressed supervisors again about the telephone books and other literature tossed along the roads.

He sees this as being a precedent if it is not stopped and could lead to other businesses doing the same thing.

George Bourizk asked the township to provide stone to fill potholes in Carl Street.

There was a petition presented to the board signed by 15 residents asking the township to fix the alley.

The board can not help the residents as this was a private alley.

Supervisor Steve Pany advised Bourizk if some material might be available from PennDOT's Route 309 project.

Bourizk said the alley is about 24 feet wide and there are 10 garages along the alley.

Secretary Brenda Norder told the board she received a letter from Guy Bieber saying he is resigning as alternate sewage enforcement officer effective Dec. 31.
