Supervisor says Ocean Spray traffic presentation is all wet
Upper Macungie supervisors are not very happy with Ocean Spray.
The fact a new storage facility is being built in Weisenberg Township has the board worried about the traffic coming and going to the facility.
Fearing degradation of certain intersections and roadways with the increase in truck traffic, the board is seeking a meeting with Ocean Spray on this matter.
According to Supervisor Sam Ashmar, there was a lot of misrepresentation to the board by Ocean Spray officials on traffic patterns that would be used by trucks going to and from the facility.
Trucks exiting the plant were to proceed on Boulder Drive to Industrial Boulevard, go right to Grim Road to a storage facility on Nestle Way.
This route would have little impact on Schantz Road and Route 100.
Now, with the change of plans, this route can not be used to get to the Weisenberg Township facility as no trucks are allowed on Adams Road, which leads from Nestle Way to Weisenberg Township.
With this change of plans, Schantz Road, Route 100 and the intersections of Schantz and Boulder, and Schantz and Route 100, will be heavily impacted.
Improvements, possibly costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, will be discussed with the township's traffic engineer.
In other matters, Lt. Joseph Wilson gave the police report and noted the first traffic fatality of the year recently occurred in the township.
There were 604 incidents during July and 533 traffic citations were issued.
Ashmar said the first disbursement of funds from the dissolution of the Berks Lehigh Regional Police Department would occur shortly.
Further disbursements will occur when available.
Fire Commissioner Grant Grim gave the fire report.
There were 103 emergency responses in the township and 85 fire alarm inspections done during July.
Sixteen people are enrolled in the fire academy scheduled for Aug.12-16.
On Sept. 21, Emergency Preparedness Day will take place 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Luke's Hospital, Cetronia Road.
Supervisor Kathy Rader told the board three grants were approved.
Each of the grants was based on the township matching the grant figure.
A grant of $31,000 was obtained for Fogelsville Dam; $239,900 was given for park improvements for Grange Road Park; and $45,487 for the water line extension in Breinigsville.
Each of these was approved by resolution.
A meeting with South Whitehall Township concerning the incident command vehicle is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 14 in the South Whitehall Township Building.
