A "Taking Reservations" sign will be placed at the Independent Park Community Center. The basement is spackled and painted with repair to the roof next.

Fire Commissioner Grant Grim reported 81 fire inspections were done in June. A total of 126 emergency responses were recorded with 195 EMS responses.

The fire academy will take place Aug. 16 at Station 56, Schantz Road.

In his report, Police Chief Edgardo Colon warned residents to be on the alert for suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

Several burglaries have occurred in the township and in neighboring communities recently.

Colon requested additional money for his budget to finish the organization of the police department.

He requested $75,680 but the board would not approve that amount.

Colon was granted $27,995 to refurbish four police cars bought at the auction for the former Berks Lehigh Regional Police Department and a sum not to exceed $10,000 for scheduling software, scanner and printer and audio microphones for the patrol cars.

The board will temporarily hold off on the remaining funding.

Colon reported total incidents for June was 772. In addition, 633 traffic citations were given out.

He asked supervisors to authorize Keystone Engineering to conduct a feasibility study to create an area on Schantz Road where vehicle inspections and truck weighing could be performed.

The board agreed to the study.

Supervisor Sam Ashmar gave the Berks Lehigh Regional Police report.

Upper Macungie should receive approximately $600,000 from the auction.

From this amount, he proposed $532,000 be placed in an account for resolution of the pension shortfall and $68,000 be moved to the general fund.

He also requested a check for $22,000 from the sewer authority. The pension shortfall is estimated at $700,000.
