Press writer and photographer Bonnie Lee Strunk won seven state awards from the Pennsylvania Press Club for writing and photography published in the Parkland Press in 2012.
She won a first place in the informational columns category for "Living the Vintage Years," and a first place in writer/photographer category for her photo essay on weeds.
She also won a second place in personal opinion columns and a second place in specialty articles religion, for "Families give thanks by giving back on Thanksgiving," and "Sunday service aids inner-city cemetery."
Strunk won third place awards in general columns; news story, for an article on the Allentown sinkhole; and general photos, for a photo of a squirrel with a walnut in a tree cavity.
Awards were presented May 4 in Hershey. Entries winning first-place awards in Pennsylvania Press Club competition were forwarded to national judging sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women.
Strunk won a third-place national award for her "Living the Vintage Years" column with the headlines "A meatless menu is more than side dishes" and "We get one chance to do it right."
National prizes will be presented in Salt Lake City, Utah, in August.
