Community Resource Fair April 14 at Asbury Church

Asbury United Methodist Church, Walbert Avenue and Springhouse Road, South Whitehall, and members of the Parkland community will come together 1-4 p.m. April 14 to present a Community Resource Fair.

The event will focus on educating residents about the many social services that exist in the community. The event was the brain child of Parkland School District social worker Diane Irish.

Irish saw a need for many families to connect to social service agencies, and suggetsed the community fair as a great way to educate many people at once.

Through her work, Irish has seen many Parkland families fall on hard times, especially during the recent recession.

Many times, families are not sure where to turn, so they contact her.

More than 20 agencies will be on hand to educate the community about their services. All will include free giveaways or children's activities to attract families.

Free snacks and beverages will be given out to attendees and door prizes have been donated to make the event a wonderful afternoon for families.

Agencies include: Bo Tkach Foundation, CareNet of the Lehigh Valley, Catholic Charities, KidsPeace, Lehigh County Conference of Churches, Parkland Community Library, Second Harvest Food Bank, Upper Lehigh Lions, Valley Youth House, Allentown Rescue Mission, LANTA, South Whitehall Police, Turning Point, Community Action Committee, AHEDD, Sacred Heart, Center for Humanistic Change and more.

Anyone willing to make a donation of snacks and beverages or who is interested in participating in the fair should contact Irish at irishd@parklandsd.org.
