Polka run asks to stop at park
Susan Giralico asked supervisors at the March 14 meeting if America on Wheels could use Ontelaunee Park as a stop.
All they would need would be a table where they could hand out cards. The Oct. 12 event is similar to a polka run.
She asked if individuals who make donations could deduct the money on their taxes even through the recreation committee does not have a 501c-3, which the township does.
No one was sure and they decided to advise donors to check with their tax advisers.
They were particularly concerned with donations for the July 14 Car Cruise.
She asked the board if car cruise proceeds could be used for other events at the park.
The use was approved by the board.
In the fire company report, New Tripoli Fire Chief Peter Christ said they responded to 13 calls within the past month.
Volunteer firefighters completed the ethanol emergency class and will be taking a propane emergency for operations and awareness.
Christ gave supervisors paperwork for workmen's compensation, which is paid by the township and reported 15 Boy Scouts visited the firehouse for a wilderness training program.
Supervisor Kermit DeLong asked if the firefighters trained to help disabled people exit a burning building.
Christ said information about that is included in regular training but some specific programs are being developed.
That was one reason they are taking a rescue truck along to fires, he said.
He said there used to be a bulletin stating the locations of residents who could need special help.
DeLong asked residents to let the fire companies know if there is someone in their home who may need extra help.
The information will be kept private.
Roadmaster Bruce Raber reported to the board his crew finished boom mowing and took aluminum cans and scrap metal for recycling.
They fixed potholes on dirt roads and are about half finished on blacktop. Sweeping antiskid and salt are also half finished.
Falcon Court, where there is a drainage problem, will have a swale added if the resident approves. The swale would be planted to grass.
Joe Wisser was appointed assistant roadmaster with the job description the same as the roadmaster's.
In other matters, Gary Frey brought copies of the audit showing the books were in good order.
Frey and Company will audit the tax collector and sewer authority.
